One of man's greatest longings is to find purpose. His soul feels utterly bankrupt without it.
It's quite simply, you see. Since we were created to reflect God's divine nature, we humans will not be content in our fallen state.
That explains our search for meaning. The hunt for purpose preoccupies our minds. It enslaves our thoughts and captivates our fancy for significance.
It's God stringing us along. He always has.
Even after sin severed our ties in the garden, God still had us tethered. We are safely connected to Him. No matter what.
His lingering life-line makes us yearn to be better, to do better, to excel. It dares us to bridge the gap and be more like Him.
This indomitable urge for greatness is our inheritance, however shrunken or tarnished by failures or missteps of the past.
But because of failures, many have abandoned the search for purpose.
Now they settle for average, for pittance or poverty, despite being tethered to the magnificent wealth of our benevolent Creator.
Still, God pulls at the weary. He draws us closer to greatness, if we allow.
If not, it will dangle suspended, well out of our reach.
Right now, you may be drifting aimlessly. Darkness may have closed in. But God has you tethered.
Life's trials my have you feeling tangled up and confused. But as an anchor firmly holds a struggling, wind-tossed boat in a turbulent storm, God has yousecurely tethered.
His ties that bind us won't choke or harm.
Instead, the long reach of His loving tether will pull us up to purpose.
So, simply hang on and trust Him to lead the way.
